Finding the perfect balance between work and play

Being driven and focused on your job is great, a commendable trait which seems to be absent in a lot of workers around the world. However, letting your job become the center of your world and taking your attention off everything else, is not. It’s downright cruel to those with whom you share your life, to be precise. And even cruel to yourself.

Getting caught up in your job is the first step in the spiral towards damaging your relationships, perhaps irreparably. Job security is even harder to attain these days, and it gets progressively easier to put in more hours in a bid to attain it. Fair enough, we all need that stability in our lives; but what happens when work starts leeching off your personal time? Productivity suffers. Turns out that focusing solely on work isn't such a good idea after all.

Finding that perfect balance between work and personal life becomes a necessity. Here are some tips to go help you go about it.

Acknowledge the Need for a Personal Life

As with most issues in life, the first step in getting to a solution is acknowledging the fact that you have such a problem. One must realize that a life lived without the thought of others is unfruitful, as our most memorable experiences are created during our interactions with others. Acknowledge that giving up personal time for time on the job is ultimately counter-productive.

Efficiently Plan Your Time

The amount of time we spend doing unproductive things is perhaps at an all-time high. Browsing through social media content of personalities who offer no value to our lives and generally just fooling around on the Internet consume much of our time. None of these are necessities; they only serve to suck up time that we'd be better served spending with our families and improving ourselves. To create a necessary balance between work and personal life, it is important to plan your time efficiently. Cut off those activities that offer no significance to your life.

Take Time Out

It becomes easy to get engrossed in work at the expense of our personal time. It is important to take time out for yourself. Play some video games with friends, go watch a movie with your family, do the things you enjoy doing—cooking, reading, whatever it may be.

Exercise

The importance of exercise cannot be overstated. It's amazing how such a basic activity positively affects the general living experience. Taking time out to hit the gym, or perhaps, even just going on a morning jog will always be worth it. Exercise triggers synapses which promote positive vibes, so to speak, which allows more focus, and ultimately increases productivity.
